Nickolas's POV

He smelled it when he was only half a mile away from the mansion he lived in. Smoke. As in the kind of smoke you would smell if a house was on fire nearby. He pressed on the gas of his silver Porsche 911 without hesitating. Passed five cars in a row, almost wrecking with a diesel truck. He just knew it was their mansion that was burning. It was a feeling that someone would get in their gut.

Worst of all his sister was there alone. Possibly asleep, not even knowing it was on fire.

He would not lose her to death again. No matter what. As long as he wasn't too late already.

He wasn't. Point blank.

Not even thirty seconds later he was driving down the driveway that he now wished was shorter than it was. But he could already see that. Huge flames errupting all around the three story mansion he'd been living in for hundreds of years. But he wasn't worried about the thousands of dollars invested in it. Nor the classic paintings by dead men.

He stomped on the brakes about a hundred feet from the house so it wouldn't miraculously catch on fire. He would hate to be stuck out here. Without further waiting he ran to the back of the house where he would be able to climb into Alexandria's window thanks to a nice tree that had been just sprouting when they bought the house as young vampires, intending to be bachelors the rest of their lives.

He jumped into the tree and climbed up until he was level with the window and then he kicked it in. The house was going to be burned to the ground in minutes anyway, a broken window wouldn't change anything. Sure enough she was asleep on the bed, curled in a little ball - even though she was sweating a waterfall.

Smoke was billowing in from beneath the doors, the vents, every single possible hole there was that led to the other part of the house. How could she not notice the house was on fire?! Well.. yeah.. she didn't have sentive smell or hearing. He jumped into the room and picked her up bridal style without warning, she didn't react like a normal girl probably would have. She literally purred and snuggled closer to him, like she was freezing. He couldnt help but grin and roll his eyes before going back through the window, jumping straight to the ground on his feet.

He walked calmly back around the house to find another car pulling up beside his. The latest Ford Shelby that was black - Nathan's car. Both doors opened to reveal a beautiful girl named Akiko from the passenger seat and Nathan from the drivers seat. Nathan's eyes locked on Nickolas coming around the house while Akiko seemed rather amazed.

Maybe she hadn't seen a three story bon-fire before.

By the time Nickolas got over to them their doors were closed and they were waiting on him leisurely, both of them sitting on the hood of Nathan's car.

Nickolas put Alexandria on the hood of his own car and moved the hair out of her face. She still hadn't woken up.

"Is she dead?" Akiko asked curiously before poking Alexandria's arm with a grin. She had a brittish accent but she was one hundred percent chinese.

"No. She just sleeps really deep." Nickolas replied before turning back to the mansion that was on fire. They were taking this calmly. They had enough money to replace this mansion fifty times if they cared too. Akiko wasn't worried either, she knew they were filthy rich. As long as they were gone before the sun came out in about eight hours all would be fine. Now all they had to do was wait for Kristopher to get home, which would atleast be five hours away. Boring time ahead.

Nathan and Nickolas were both silently wondering the same thing, though. Was this just her sleeping really deep, or was she having one of her infamous memories?

Normal POV

I knew they didn't bury any of the vampires they murdered during a war. They would leave the bodies there to be picked up by their own kind or to be eaten by a wild animal. We were staying in the town next to the small town we evaded. This had more mortals in it, and a few nice hotels. I had my own room and no guards because Damen hadn't told anyone about me saving that vampire and he didn't think I would actually try to do what I was getting ready to do.

I was going to take her to a witch who practiced black magic and would therefor bring the vampire back to life. All I needed was for the body to still be there. I put on a black thin leather jacket that reached to about four inches above my knees. I flipped the hood over my head and put on some thick black shades. It was dark outside but this wouldn't be out of character for many people. Not many people wanted to take a chance being recognized by the wrong crowd.
And in this case I was just like them.

I grabbed the key to my room, shoved it in my pocket, and left silently. I didn't run into anyone I knew until I got to the elevator, and then the person I saw didn't know me. It was a fourty-year old man who'd been one of the commanders of today's monsterous disaster. I nodded my head at him when he smiled, and not even two minutes later I was leaving the elevator on the first floor.

Once outside I got a cab, had them take me to the neighboring town, told them to wait as I 'visited a friend'. I knew where I'd gone, it was pretty hard to forget regardless of the knock to my head. Sure enough her dead body was still there. Her skin was as white as snow, her eyes closed. She would have looked peaceful had there not been a huge cut on her throat and all the blood.

That cut would always be a reminder to her of how she died, I knew that. It was one thing nobody would be able to get rid of for her. That kind of scar would last forever. But then again she would be alive, she'd have nothing to complain about.

Relying on strength I didn't really have I picked her up and carried her the half a mile back to where the cab was waiting and I slid her into the back seat with me. Her head was in my lap, all cold and damp from the ground. I looked at the driver who was now staring at me with wide eyes. Everyone knew who I was so I took off my shades, revealing what to anyone else would seem like a careless indifferent face.

"I'll pay you a thousand dollars if you'll keep this between you and I." I said sternly, giving him a challenging look. He didn't argue, he nodded eagerly infact. I guessed that he needed the money.

"Take me to that one house on the hill. You know - just about the only house we didn't invade today." I said cooly. He nodded at me and I put my shades back on before leaning back into the seat. If this man told anyone about this I wouldn't regret killing him, seriously.

Ten minutes later and we were at the end of a curvy driveway, parked in front of a cozy two story house that had no attributes of kindness. I licked my lips before telling him to wait once more. I got me and the vampire out of the back of the cab somehow or another and went to the door, knocked lightly on it, and waited.

It seemed like an eternity passed before a girl who looked to be in her early twenties answered the door. She looked at me and then at the vampire curiously before raising her left eyebrow. She leaned on the door jamb and asked, "What exactly can I do for you and your.. friend?" She purred. Her long red hair framed her face and flowed past her waist. Her lime-green eyes were peering at me with no possible emotion in them.

"I want you to bring her back to life." I said, nodding my head at the vampire I was still holding up, "I'll pay you whatever sum you'll need to get the job done." I ensured. She hadn't had any kind of look cross her face since she raised her eyebrow. She shrugged and opened the door further, signaling for me to come inside.

"I need no money for this. Your paying enough in risk as it is, and for such a selfless cause." She said cooly as she led me into a room down the hallway. It was comfortable with a fireplace in it. A TV with all the accesories, and a large wrap-around couch.

"Sit her on there, I'll go get some stuff I'll need." she stated.

Hours after that the vampire's throat was healed but there was a scar remaining. She took in a deep breath before her violet eyes opened, scanning her surroundings. I could tell by the look in her eyes that she realized what had happened, as if she had been hovering above us the entire time the witch performed her enchantments and made her herbs and liquids. Her eyes landed on me and I noticed for the first time since trying to save her, since lugging her around, and since watching her be brought back to life, that even in vampire years she wasn't that old. She was very young, very innocent.

"You didn't need to do that." she said flatly before sitting up and popping certain things back into comfort zones. "I know who you are even though you haven't taken those bloody shades off. I don't like people risking their lives for me, thats my job. To put my neck on the line for others." she said snappishly.

"You could look at it this way: You DID put your neck on the line and you DO have a reminder of that." I snapped back.

"Your as old as me you know." She said after staring at me for a few minutes. I looked at her in confusion, what did that have to do with anything?

"Wha-"

"I'm only seventeen too. I've only been a vampire for a few months." she said sadly before blinking back into the real world. "Since you brought me back, would you mind helping me further? I need a new identity."

"I could do that. But only if you'll tell me what your name is as of now." I said back. She nodded and held out a hand of which I took, and as we shook hands she said serenely, "My name is currently Cordelia."
